The well runs dry

Still no steady job. Tiny little freelance gigs here and there but absolutely nothing to get excitedf about. And, as has been the case, searching for a job has devoured all of my time and my writing is taking the back seat. I have written NOTHING in the past six days. I do however have a very neat idea for a short story in my head and I am anxious to get it out onto paper.  I can already tell that it will be one of those stories that spills itself out in one or two sessions behind the keyboard…quick-moving, creepy and to the point.

Anyway, in searching for my job, I’ve been listening to CDs that I burned prior to leaving my old job.  One of them makes me seriously wonder if I have some sort of superhuman ability to make awesome mix CDs.  For instance, the one in question is an 80s alternative/semi-new wave mix.  The track listing is:

“Disentigration” – The Cure
“Policy of Truth” – Depeche Mode
“She’s in Parties” – Bauhaus
“The Killing Moon” – Echo and the Bunnymen
“Great Southern Land” – Icehouse
“Big Mouth Strikes Again” – The Smiths
“Love Will Tear Us Apart” – Joy Division
“Under the Milkyway” – The Church
“Enjoy the Silence” – Depeche Mode
“Running Up That Hill” – Kate Bush
“The Mercy Seat” – Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
“Monkey Gone to Heaven” – The Pixies
“New Dawn Fades” – Joy Division
“Fascination Street” – The Cure

I’m really tempted to do a pop-orinted one as well.  Tears For Fears, Duran Duran, that basketball song from Teen Wolf (“Win in the End” by Mark Safan), and stuff like that.

Anyway, back to the job hunt.  Feel free to add some songs to my CD in the comments section.  I know I missed a ton…

  1. Man, your CD mix is uncannily close to the type of thing I have playing in my office on a daily basis as I work. My most treasured Cure album is “Faith” and I have a cassette that, as a bonus, includes some instrumental stuff Robert and the boys composed and called “Carnage Visors”. Very neat.

Thanks for this, fun to find another Cure/Church fan in ye blogosphere…

  2. I envy your story idea. Writing “The Second Cousin of the Monkey King” was like pulling teeth : P

Also, your CD mix proves that I am, quite possibly, the most un-hip person ever.

  3. Gee, thanks for the love, everyone. Makes me wish I could update it more. Maybe once I’m not stressed about the job siutation…
